Leander, Texas Real Estate Market Overview
Leander Texas was originally named Baghdad. The first residents were land grant recipients awarded for
service in the Texas Revolution. It was rough settling this area because of frequent Indian attacks. Eventually
the Texas Rangers built a garrison for sixty men and settling began in earnest. Baghdad was on the stage line and goods
and supplies were coming on a regular schedule.
The railroad came nearby in the 1880's but was located one mile east. Gradually business and people moved
closer to the tracks and the town was renamed Leander.
Leander is no different than many of the outlying suburbian towns
around Austin. With the growth of Austin came the growth of Leander.
Over 80% of the existing homes have been built since 1980. The biggest growth boom was between 1990 and 2000 with 56% of the
current housing being built in this ten years.
The average listing price for two bedroom homes is $150,725 as of January 2007 and three bedroom homes
are listing at an average of$175,213. Four bedroom homes are bearing an average listng of
$267,363.
Median value of owner-occupied housing according to the 2000 census was $99,800 compared to the state average of $82,500.
