Leander, Texas Real Estate Market Overview

Leander Texas was originally named Baghdad. The first residents were land grant recipients awarded for service in the Texas Revolution. It was rough settling this area because of frequent Indian attacks. Eventually the Texas Rangers built a garrison for sixty men and settling began in earnest. Baghdad was on the stage line and goods and supplies were coming on a regular schedule.

The railroad came nearby in the 1880's but was located one mile east. Gradually business and people moved closer to the tracks and the town was renamed Leander.

Leander is no different than many of the outlying suburbian towns around Austin. With the growth of Austin came the growth of Leander.

Median value of owner-occupied housing according to the 2000 census was $99,800 compared to the state average of $82,500.
