As editor of the newly-released book, "The Road To Independence: Women's Journeys To Starting Their Own Law Firms," Karen M. Lockwood appears with a panel of women who wrote letters for the book, and Chair Bobbi Liebenberg, at the main presentation by the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession. Held at the ABA's Annual Meeting in Toronto, Canada, this program will be fascinating and interactive. The program will be presented also for distribution on-line in the fall. NAWL Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon

National Association of Women Lawyers' gala luncheon honors nationally renowned advocates Susan Blount, general counsel of Prudential Financial, Jamie Gorelick, partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, Michele Coleman Mayes, general counsel of Allstate Insurance, and Brooksley Born, retired partner, Arnold & Porter, as well as lead-by-example honorees Hon. With Keynote Speaker Jerry Kang (UCLA), three panels step through defining the bias issues, examining strategies to overcome bias, and recommending practical steps to advance women in the law.

Lockwood featured in ABAToday for new book on women founding law firms

The July 2011 online monthly ABAToday leads with its interview of Karen M. Lockwood, discussing the new book, The Road To Independence (2011), to be released by the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession. Ms. Lockwood is the editor of the book, a compendium of 101 letters by women who founded law firms over the last 50 years. Uniting For Justice Grant Ceremony & Reception, WBA Foundation of DC

A spectacular success for the WBA Foundation in DC, last night's Grant Ceremony featured many public interest orgs working with heart, soul, and grants for women and children. Keynote Kathy Korman Frey, Founder of The Hot Momma's Project, taught that women moving forward to success use their "self-efficacy" -- and thus are hot and in motion and effective. DRI Sharing Success - Seminar For Women Lawyers

DRI's Women in the Law Committee addressed unique challenges women face in the practice of law, and offered models for success. Distinguished faculty from around the country gave lectures, workshops, and business development tips. Karen M. Lockwood conducted the session on "Making It Rain," addressing the arc from knowing your niche to understanding the business of the legal services market, and using that knowledge to differentiate yourself and enhance value.

Vision 2020

Karen M. Lockwood attended "Vision 2020" representing the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession, which was a "National Ally" organization. She contributed thought leadership in Business, Law, and Finance, and reported the subgroup's work on Finance.

Vision 2020 -- named for achievement of women's equality by the year 2020 -- is sponsored by Drexel University School of Medicine. It explores the status of women, and the next steps for equal advancement in 4 major fields of endeavor. The symposium gathered Delegates from the 50 states and DC, and from National Ally organizations.
